He managed to escape – in handcuffs. An alarm search, which also involved a helicopter and service dogs, was unsuccessful.
A little later, current videos and pictures appeared on the young man’s Instagram account and were checked by the police. Nevertheless, there is still no trace of the young man. On Friday, the police published photos of Yousef A. on the orders of the Wiener Neustadt Regional Court.

Two more prisoners on the run
In addition to the 16-year-old, two other prisoners are on the run in Lower Austria: An inmate at the Schwarzau prison (Neunkirchen district) returned from the state hospital the previous week Viennese Neustadt not back, a 35 year old prisoner the prison (JA) Stein escaped on Tuesday evening as part of a hospital visit. The Russian was serving a sentence for aggravated robbery.
When asked about the inmate at Schwarzau correctional institution, the Ministry of Justice emphasized that she had escaped during an unguarded inpatient stay – in contrast to the two other cases that occurred during medical examinations. The woman’s stay was approved by the first instance prison authority as unguarded, “since there were repeated exits to maintain social contacts (such as with the children), from which the inmate always returned properly.” The inmate “demonstrated very good behavior and was thrown off course by bad news,” it was emphasized. She had served a prison sentence for property crimes, which was scheduled to end in spring 2025.
Special safety precautions
According to its own statements, the Ministry of Justice has already responded to the latest incidents with measures. “All prisons have been instructed to only carry out medical escorts under special security precautions until further notice,” it said in a statement. During a key operation on Wednesday, numerous detention rooms in 21 prisons nationwide were searched. According to the ministry, attention was also paid to items that could be used to prepare for escape. “Such actions are carried out at irregular intervals throughout Germany and serve to strengthen and maintain security in prisons.”
In addition, security-relevant incidents such as escapes are “continuously evaluated and there is a multi-professional exchange at various levels”. Among those named were prison management and security officers in prisons. There is also an exchange with other authorities and European prison administrations. “Every single test is analyzed in detail in order to learn from these findings and experiences and to adapt existing safety measures accordingly or to retrofit safety devices.” The results are also incorporated into the training and further education of prison guards.
