Israel’s military claims to have found weapons in a school in the Gaza Strip

Almost six weeks after the Islamist Hamas attack on Israel, soldiers have recovered two bodies of hostages near Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip. A dead 65-year-old woman was discovered in an outbuilding of the hospital, the Israeli military announced on Thursday evening. On Friday morning, the military said the remains of a kidnapped 19-year-old soldier had been found near the hospital.

The armed wing of the Islamist Hamas, the Qassam Brigades, had previously published a video of the woman on Telegram. Among other things, she was seen with very serious injuries. The terrorist organization claimed the soldier was killed in an Israeli airstrike on November 9. The information could not be independently verified.

Drinking water and food delivered

The Israeli military spokesman said on Friday that the army would locate all the missing people and return those abducted home. On October 7, terrorists from Hamas and other groups kidnapped around 240 hostages to the Gaza Strip in massacres and attacks in the Israeli border area that left around 1,200 dead.

Israel’s military said it delivered more than 4,000 liters of drinking water and 1,500 food rations to Al-Shifa Hospital yesterday. Early on Wednesday morning, the military reported that soldiers had entered the largest hospital in the city of Gaza. The operation seemed to continue yesterday – despite international protests against the military operation in a hospital. Israel accuses the Islamist Hamas of using the clinic as a terrorist base.

By the way, around 800,000 people are said to still be in the northern part of the Gaza Strip. This was reported by the UN emergency relief office OCHA. The figures would mean that only a third of the population who lived there before October 7th left the area for the southern Gaza Strip, i.e. 400,000 people.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has called on Israel to take measures to combat settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. In a phone call with Israeli opposition leader Benny Gantz, Blinken emphasized “the urgent need for concrete measures to defuse tensions in the West Bank – particularly by combating increasing settler violence.”

Gantz is a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s three-member war cabinet, which was founded after the major Hamas attack.
