Just in time for “Children’s Rights Day” – which is celebrated every year on November 20th, this morning, Monday – in front of the Steyr town hall, in addition to the city flag, Klaus Mayrhofer, regional chairman of the Children’s Friends of Steyr-Kirchdorf, also presented the banner for the Children’s rights raised. This is intended to point out the enormous importance of this cause, to which Austria’s children’s friends have been committed for more than 30 years: the awareness, compliance and implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Even though a lot has happened during this time, the concrete life situation of many children is still not something to celebrate, emphasize Mayrhofer and the Steyr children’s friends veteran Klaus Franchi: “Many children live in poverty, many children experience violence, many children do not get enough quickly the therapy they need.” And this list could be continued even further.

“The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted on November 20, 1989 and has been celebrated throughout Austria ever since,” says Franchi. There will therefore be campaigns to address this important issue in many kindergartens in the region.
