A sports plane landed on a 350-meter-long foam carpet that five fire departments had previously applied to the meadow, ORF Kärnten reported. Reason for the ground treatment: The pilot was unable to extend the landing gear of the light aircraft. He circled over the airfield while 98 firefighters prepared it with foam.
“He turned off the engine and slowly landed on the meadow,” reported operations manager Hannes Lick from the Micheldorf fire department. The two occupants of the plane – the 52-year-old pilot and a 42-year-old woman – were uninjured. Why the landing gear could not be extended still needs to be clarified.
