The approaching winter continues to be very hesitant in many parts of the state. At least that’s what the weather models from GeoSphere Austria show for Upper Austria. However, it is slowly cooling down at least a little, even if it generally remains too warm for the time of year.
Today, Monday, the week starts with variable cloudiness, but reasonably friendly. “Apart from the Mühlviertel, there could be a few hours of sun,” says meteorologist Maximilian Störz from GeoSphere Austria, “but it will be a lottery with cloud cover.” It will also be relatively warm with daily maximum temperatures of eight to 14 degrees.
That should change from Tuesday. With the influence of low pressure from a westerly Atlantic current, a cloudy and rainy day is on the horizon. With highs of five to nine degrees it also gets cooler; towards the evening it can snow down to 800 meters in the Mühlviertel.
Wind drives away the fog
It will be a little cooler with maximum temperatures of zero to five degrees in the middle of the week. With the slight cold coming from the north, it could snow across large areas right down to the valleys for the first time this season. However, you shouldn’t expect too much from it, says Störz: “A little more snow is possible along the Alps, but otherwise it will just be covered in sugar.”
However, temperatures will remain frosty across the board at minus four to zero degrees overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.
The weather will be much more stable on Thursday and Friday. Temperatures rise to seven to nine degrees. “It will be rather dry autumn days,” says Störz, “but thick high fog is also possible on Thursday.” It is therefore very vague whether and for how long the sun will appear.
Significantly stronger winds, blowing from the west at up to 70 km/h, will put an end to the high fog on Friday and the sun will appear more again. From today’s perspective, a little more rain is expected for the weekend itself, but the weather models are still subject to a certain degree of uncertainty.
