Unemployment increased again and is 8.6% nationwide

The activity rate once again grew faster than the employment rate and unemployment now affects almost 161,000 people.

He unemployment increased again in the month of October and is now 8.6% at the country level, with an activity rate that once again grew at a monthly level faster than that of employmentand unemployment that already affects almost 161,000 people.

The data comes from the latest technical bulletin on Activity, Employment and Unemployment prepared by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) corresponding to the month of October of the current year from the Continuous Household Survey.

In all the Uruguaythe rate of unemployment It was 8.6%, that is, an increase of 0.3% compared to the records in September, when it was 8.3%. In turn, it affects about 160,900 people, when last month the number of unemployed nationally was estimated at about 155,000 Uruguayans.

Regarding the activity rate, it once again grew faster than that of employment and stood at 64.1%, while the other did so at 58.6%, both improving their September records of 63.8% and 58.5%, respectively. The number of active people reached more than 1,874,500 people, while the number of employed people was more than 1,713,600 people.

Unemployment continues to be higher in the interior of the country

In the labor market indicators by region, there was a unemployment of 8.9% in the inside the countrycompared to 8.2% in Montevideo. In turn, in the interior activity was lower, at 63.5%, while in the capital it was 65%. In the comparison by employmentthis was 57.9% in the interior, compared to 59.7% in Montevideo.

Likewise, it is estimated that 9.4% of employed people are underemployed and that non-registration to social security for their main job is 22.5%.
