There are still five games on the program for Austria’s national soccer team until the start of the 2024 European Championship. This is also why you won’t see any major personnel experiments from ÖFB team boss Ralf Rangnick against Germany today. All squad players are fit – if any, there should be only minimal changes compared to Thursday’s 2-0 win in Estonia.
And the team boss didn’t let himself be lured out of his reserve when asked about the role of favorite. “I don’t think we’re favorites. That doesn’t matter either. I am convinced that Germany has the chance and the potential to play a good European Championship.” Rangnick likes Nagelsmann’s game idea: “Regardless of whether he starts with a three-man or four-man defense chain – we are prepared for both variants.”
In a way, Rangnick sees the game as pointing the way for European Championship games against top teams. “We have to become a tournament team. But we have already shown against France and Italy that we can keep up.” ÖFB team captain David Alaba, who recently had regular contact with some Bayern professionals in the German national team as well as with his Real teammate Antonio Rüdiger, leaves no doubt about the team’s self-confidence: “We don’t have to hide from anyone. Nevertheless, we know the strengths of the Germans. They have world-class individual players and are also dangerous as a team.”
