After the negotiations on the Wels double budget 2024/25 failed two weeks ago, a date for new talks has now been set: Mayor Andreas Rabl (FP) invites the “alliance” made up of the SP, VP and the Greens this Thursday. This time, representatives of Neos and MfG, who are not represented in the city senate, but are represented in the local council with a mandate each, are also sitting at the table as listeners. They will also tip the scales: If both agree, Rabl will have the majority for its budget in the local council even without the VP, SP and Greens.
As reported, the SP, VP and the Greens came together to present a common list of demands to the mayor’s party. In it they called for more street workers and a say in the allocation of advertisements and part of the event budget. Due to the distribution of votes in the city senate (FP 4, SP 2, VP 1, Greens 1), they can prevent a resolution from being passed. This is necessary so that the budget is passed on to the local council.
According to Rabl, the other parties have now been invited “to make the negotiation process more transparent and to include everyone.” He hopes for successful negotiations with a positive result for the city.
The opposition alliance announced its participation yesterday at the request of the Welser Zeitung: “We welcome this step. In this situation, the worst thing would be not to talk to each other,” says Deputy Mayor Klaus Schinninger (SP).
