At this point, the responsible mdw rector, Ulrike Sych, had already appointed a team of experts to clarify the matter. Its 100-page report is now available internally – and, according to an mdw release, largely exonerates Happel.

“The main allegations against the institute management Maria Happel and Annett Matzke regarding ‘abuse of power’, ‘no processing of MeToo allegations’, filling positions, banning the house and police deployment as well as teaching outside of protected spaces have not been confirmed,” the statement says. At the same time, the need for structural improvements at the seminar was identified. This applies, for example, to the areas of communication and information transfer or the transparency of decisions. For legal reasons, no further comment could be made, the mdw said.
Rector Sych thanked the expert committee, which included representatives of the working group for equal treatment and the works council, quality management, members of the university student body and the vice-rector. She will arrange for the recommendations to be implemented immediately. Sych also announced that the future permanent management of the renowned acting and directing school would be determined by the summer semester of 2024. The institution is currently led on an interim basis by Tamara Metelka.
