UPM 2 will begin transporting pulp to the Port of Montevideo in April

Plant UPM 2 (UPM Paso de los Toros) will begin to transport pulp cellulose to the Port of Montevideo through the Central Railway during the month of April of next year.

The Portren railway company, which will transport 100% of the production of UPM 2will also load supplies from the capital’s port terminal to the Finnish company’s plant in Centennial Town (Durazno)which was inaugurated this year.

On a weekly basis, between 21 and 31 trips will be made, that is, about 6 trips per day. The total fleet consists of 7 locomotives, 120 pulp cars cellulose and another 20 tank cars, according to radio Carve.

On November 6, the Portren Operations and Maintenance Center was inaugurated, which is located at kilometer 39,500 of Route 5, in the town of Juanicó, department of cannelloni. This will be the central point for the train, since it has about 3,000 square meters for machinery service, as well as an additional space of 1,000 square meters where the DBCC company operates.

Next week the last two locomotives of the fleet will arrive

William Jacobpresident of CHR Group, assured that the last two locomotives of the fleet would be arriving next week, and that the merchandise would begin to move during the last days of April.

“We are already doing tests on the infrastructure, then will come the signaling tests and the first tests of the loaded wagons,” the leader stressed.
