Yesterday, Friday, Wolfgang Katzian, head of the Austrian Trade Union Confederation (ÖGB), appealed to employers to find a collective agreement based on rolling inflation. Otherwise there could be strikes in trade, the metal industry and social professions, which involved up to 900,000 workers, warned Katzian. Yesterday he took part in a solidarity rally by the unions in front of the safety technology manufacturer EVVA’s factory in Vienna.
EVVA boss Stefan Ehrlich-Adam is chief employer negotiator for the metalworking industry association with 135,000 employees. The struggle for a Metaller-KV will enter the eighth round of negotiations next Thursday. The employee representatives are demanding 10.6 percent more gross wages and salaries; employers recently said they offered an average wage increase of 8.2 percent and up to twelve percent for the lower employment groups.
Trend-setting conclusion
There is also haggling over a new collective agreement in retail and social professions. As reported, there was an agreement among the officials. On average, you receive 9.15 percent more. The Metaller-KV is considered to be groundbreaking for other industries.
