Shortly before noon, the Ukrainian was hit by a Selzthalbahn passenger train in his red Skoda on a level crossing that was restricted and secured with lights and was dragged for around 100 meters, the police said in the evening. Why his car came to a standstill on the tracks between the closed barriers was still the subject of investigation that evening. The train driver told the police that he had given off an acoustic warning signal with his train and that the stationary car jerked forward as if the engine had stopped.

Neighbors who noticed the accident started the rescue chain, freed the unresponsive driver from the wreckage and began resuscitation. “When we got to the scene of the accident, first responders had already pulled the person out of the severely deformed car,” said Michael Oberndorfinger, deputy commander of the Micheldorf Volunteer Fire Department, to the OÖN.
