There was a pile-up on the Steyregger Bridge in Linz, which was probably caused by lightning ice. According to the police, 15 vehicles were affected and there were five slightly injured people who were transported to surrounding hospitals by the Red Cross.

“When we arrived there was a picture of devastation stretching over several hundred meters,” reported the Linz fire department, which supported the Red Cross. However, no people had to be rescued from their vehicles. Due to the cold, a Linz AG bus was organized for the uninjured people in order to be able to offer those affected a warm place. The B3 was closed from around 8:30 a.m. and drivers had to avoid large areas of the A7. Mondsee Straße (B154) was closed in both directions between Zell am Moos and the A1 junction Mondsee after an accident with a truck.

Gust of wind covered house in Tyrol

The Niklas depression not only brought the onset of winter in Tyrol, but also caused numerous damages caused by the snowstorm in the early hours of the morning, as the police reported on Saturday afternoon. According to preliminary information, no one was injured. The Kufstein district was particularly affected. At around 4:30 a.m., the entire roof of a house in Ellmau was covered by a gust of wind and blown into an adjacent field. In the area of the Stadtberg-Weg in Kufstein with the lift route of the “Kaiserlift” two trees were found lying across the road, and at least ten more trees were uprooted in the forest area above. At least two trees had fallen on the Kaiserlift’s support cable about 100 meters above the path and pushed it several meters to the ground. The extent to which serious damage was caused to the “Kaiserlift” was still the subject of relevant clarifications.

The Scheffau fire department had to remove several fallen trees on the L 207 (Hintersteiner-See-Landesstraße). Due to the storm, there was an increased risk of additional falling trees for emergency services throughout the district.

Mieminger Straße (B189) in Tyrol was also affected: several trucks broke down here between Barwies and Obsteig. Due to the rescue work, not only the B189 but also the exit at the A12 Mötz junction had to be closed. The Paznauntal Road (B188) was impassable in the morning hours due to snowdrifts. For many other connections from western to eastern Austria, chains were required, for example for Katschberg Straße (B99), Hochkönig Straße (B164) or Passthurn Straße (B161), reports the Öamtc.

Truck left the road in Styria

In Styria, a truck left the road on the Pyhrnautobahn (A9) near Ardning. Initially, the cars were directed past the scene of the accident; the motorway towards the field had to be closed for the rescue work.
