0:1 – Blau-Weiß Linz lost at Rapid

Marco Grüll secured the three points with his goal in the 60th minute. In the table, Rapid moved past Vienna Austria (19) and is seventh with 21 points, while Linz (16) remains ninth.

At the same time, the Hütteldorfers ended their drought of six games without a win in front of their home crowd and celebrated their first home win since the beginning of August (4-0 against Altach on August 5th). The green-whites will now travel to WSG Tirol next Saturday (5 p.m.) and will try to take advantage of the improvement with the new coaching team. Meanwhile, coach Gerald Scheiblehner’s Linz team hosted cup winners Sturm Graz in the penultimate autumn round at the same time.

17,500 spectators didn’t want to miss the new beginning at Rapid under Klauß and saw a home team that the 38-year-old coach changed in four positions compared to the 0-1 defeat in Hartberg two weeks ago. Jonas Auer came on in place of Martin Moormann, who was ill, and Maximilian Hofmann replaced Michael Sollbauer in the defense center. Nikolas Sattlberger and Lukas Grgic were allowed to play in the defensive midfield instead of Moritz Oswald and Roman Kerschbaum.

Blue-White misses the chance to take the lead

Rapid controlled the game, which was reflected in 85 percent possession of the ball after 20 minutes. Offensively, the hosts remained too awkward and not compelling enough. Matthias Seidl (10th), Guido Burgstaller (11th) and Leopold Querfeld (15th) tested guest goalie Nicolas Schmid with their heads, but he had little trouble. Seidl’s overhead kick drew applause (26′), but not the lead. Shortly afterwards, Burgstaller didn’t catch a good Auer cross cleanly (27′).

The Linzers were not able to take the offensive in the first half hour, but then had the chance to take the lead through Fabian Windhager. The 22-year-old suddenly appeared alone in front of Niklas Hedl, but missed (30th).

After the break it was initially the same picture: rapid effort and determining the game, but at the front there was a lack of seriousness when finishing that Klauß wanted. So luck helped the Hütteldorfers a little: rather by chance, the ball landed on the edge of the penalty area to Grüll, who immediately shot and whose deflected shot caught Schmid on the wrong leg (60th).

The goal visibly relaxed the hosts. Neraysho Kasanwirjo failed from a good position to Schmid (67′), Grgic hit the post after a tussle in the penalty area (70′). As a result, the guests opened up and became more offensive. But Rapid didn’t allow any great chances.
