For a long time, the car was the means of transport of choice in the Linz-Land district. With the latest traffic survey from 2022, a trend reversal is now becoming apparent:
Cars and the like are still popular, but compared to 2012 there has been a decline from 70.1 to 67.3 percent. The modal split shares of gentle forms of mobility such as walking and cycling have increased, and there is also a slight increase in public transport (see graphic). The number of leisure trips has increased significantly over the past ten years (plus 46 percent), the increase in work trips is much lower (plus six percent).
State Transport Councilor Günther Steinkellner (FP) emphasizes that the infrastructure in the district is well developed, but due to the high number of commuters it reaches its performance limits during peak times. He highlights the expansion of public transport as an important component; in addition to the four-track ÖBB western line expansion, the extension of tram line 4 from Traun to Ansfelden is an important future project. This is closely related to the “B139 New” road construction project; the tram route is to be implemented on the “old” bypass route.
