Hamas frees 14 Israeli hostages and three other foreigners

Gaza-Hamas yesterday handed over to the Red Cross 13 Israeli hostages, three Thai citizens and a person of Russian nationality held in the Gaza Strip, on the third day of truce between Israel and the terrorist group.

The four-day truce is the first break in fighting in the seven weeks since Hamas killed 1,200 people and took about 240 hostages to Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with security forces inside the Gaza Strip yesterday and indicated that the campaign was far from over.

“Nothing will stop us, and we are convinced that we have the strength, the power, the will and the determination to achieve all the objectives of the war, and that is what we will do,” he said.

According to Israeli media, one of the freed hostages was rushed to the hospital by helicopter because she was in a critical situation. This is Elma Avraham, 84 years old. The hostages released yesterday were identified as Avigail Idan (4 years old), Alma Avraham (84), Aviva Adrian Siegal (62), Hagar Brodetz (40), Ofri Brodetz (10), Yuval Brodetz (8), Uriah Brodetz (4) , Hen Goldstein-Almog (48), Agam Goldstein-Almog (17), Gal Goldstein-Almog (11), Tal Goldstein-Almog (8), Dafna Elyakim (15), Ela Elyakim (8) and Ron Kriboy (25) , dual citizenship of Israel and Russia. Meanwhile, the murder of a Palestinian farmer in the center of the Gaza Strip raised fears for the fragile truce. Egypt and Qatar had to mediate to maintain the truce.

Hamas’s armed wing also announced yesterday the death of four of its military commanders in the Gaza Strip, including the commander of the Northern Gaza brigade, Ahmad Al Ghandour. However, it was unclear when they were killed.

Qatar, Egypt and the United States are pushing for the truce to be extended after today. Israel has said the ceasefire could be extended if Hamas continued to release at least 10 hostages a day. A Palestinian source had said that up to 100 hostages could be freed.

Israel freed 39 Palestinians – six women and 33 teenagers – from two prisons.

Yesterday, the United Nations announced that a total of 248 trucks with humanitarian aid arrived in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the truce. Of that total, 61 contained medical supplies, food and water in the north of the enclave.

In addition, 11 ambulances, three coaches and a flatbed vehicle were delivered to Al Shifa Hospital – the largest in that territory – “to help with evacuations,” said a statement from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). ).

According to Israeli authorities, Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City is the main command center for Hamas operations in the Gaza Strip, which the Islamist movement denies.
