The Economic and Corruption Public Prosecutor’s Office (WKStA) accuses a 58-year-old businessman of having “greased” 45 former employees of Wiener Wohnen from at least April 2011 to 2013. Seven of the businessman’s employees are co-accused as perpetrators or contributors.
During the incriminated period, the 58-year-old ran a glazing and painting workshop, a stonemasonry business and several construction companies and carried out repair work in municipal housing complexes for Wiener Wohnen. According to the WKStA’s 44-page indictment, orders were regularly charged “that were not or should not have been carried out or at least not to the extent charged.” According to the prosecution, this worked like a charm because so-called foremen and speakers at Wiener Wohnen were in the know and were said to have been bribed with fuel and shopping vouchers, and in rarer cases with other material assets and cash, for turning a blind eye. Incriminated total damage amount: 170,000 euros.
The number of defendants created a completely unusual scene in the Viennese “Landl”. Almost half of the large jury room was reserved for them. The review of the generalities alone took up the first two hours of the court day. After a short break, the arguments from the WKStA and the defense will begin soon.
