Uruguay has 3.4 million inhabitants and 52% are women

He National Institute of Statistics (INE) presented preliminary data of the 2023 Census carried out two months ago where they establish that Uruguay reached a total of 3,444,263 inhabitants in which 52% are women and 48% are men.

This Monday at the Sodre National Auditorium “Dra. Adela Reta”, in the event headed by the president of the National Census Commission 2023, Isaac Alfie; the director of the INE, Diego Aboal; and the director of Census 2023, Leonardo Cuello, The preliminary results of the 2023 Census were presented.

There, it was reported that Uruguay has 3,444,263 inhabitants, of which 52% are women and 48% are men. With these results, it was concluded that the Uruguayan population grew by 1% compared to the previous census carried out in 2011. With this, Aboal estimated that Uruguay is a country with “a relatively stagnant population.”

What refers to the age of the Uruguayan inhabitants An increase was recognized in the percentage of people between the ages of 35 and 64 with 38% compared to 35% in the last census. Furthermore, the age range 65 years and older also perceived an increase of 2%, going from 14% to 16%. The age range that dropped the most was 0 to 14 years old, going from 22% to 18%.

More data about the population

Regarding the geographical data of the population, it was determined that 96% of the population they live in the city, while the remaining 4% resides in the field. In relation to these data, Aboal highlighted that “there is a very important process of decline in those who live in a rural environment.”

Furthermore, it was estimated that 92% of the inhabitants have access to drinking water through pipes, while 99% have access to electricity. For its part, the number of people per household is around 2.5, while, if compared to the 2011 census, there was a drop of 0.3 since the results at that time were 2.8.

What refers to telecommuting, Preliminary data reported that 6.5% of Uruguayans have this modality to work and that the departments where this phenomenon occurs most are cannelloni and Montevideo.

Pets were also censused and it was established that 2 out of every 3 Uruguayan households have a pet – either a dog or a cat – where a total of 2,134,520 pets were counted, of which 1,444,540 were dogs and 689,980 were cats.
