The Concordia-Salto Binational Airport would be ready by the middle of next year

The governor of Entre Ríos assured that the funds to complete the work are already guaranteed.

The governor of Entre Ríos, Gustavo Bordetconfirmed this Monday that the funds “are guaranteed” and that “the construction and rehabilitation of the Concordia-Salto Binational Airport Comodoro Pierrestegui, which reached 77% execution of the works plan with more than 140 workers from the region.

The work is financed through a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (BID) of 32 million dollars, granted directly to the province. The provincial leader assured that “by July or August of next year” the work will be completed, which includes a 2,000-meter runway for large aircraft, regional flights and Freight transport.

That, considered Bordet, will allow “to get away with the production of regional economies such as blueberries and citrus.” A new tower, a platform, a new airport building are also being built with all the requirements for domestic flights and international and a new, larger fuel tank.

The airport, which will be the only one enabled for large aircraft in the entire river corridor Uruguay, is part of the program Development and Integration of the Salto Grande Region.

The objective of the program is to contribute to increasing the competitiveness of the productive and tourism sectors; increase productivity; improve the tourist positioning and the connectivity of that region, to “attract a greater number of tourists.”

“It will be a new, cutting-edge airport, with technology to guarantee security, which is key,” highlighted the Entre Ríos governor. Likewise, he stressed that it is a work that “is not going to be paralyzed, because the credit is insured” by the province.

Uruguay Airports will inaugurate the Rivera International Airport “General President Óscar D. Gestido” next Monday, December 11, as part of the conditioning and renovation project in infrastructure and services carried out in different air terminals in the country.
