Milk shipment in October rose 2% year-on-year

The milk delivery to plant increased by 2% year-on-year during the month of October, while cumulatively for the same month it had a variation of 1% compared to the same period of the previous year, as reported by the National Milk Institute (Inale).

During October, the volume of raw milk collected in the dairy farms and received in industrial plants for processing 221.07 million liters, 2% more than in October 2022, and with an average fat content of 3.87% and protein of 3.51%.

The volume of milk sent in the month of October was the highest so far this year, surpassing the annual record of September, when 207.72 million liters were sent.

In turn, in the accumulated amount up to October, some 1,732 million liters of raw milkthat is, 1% more than what was at this time of the year in 2022. For its part, in the last 12 months, the variation was also 1% compared to the same period of the previous year, with 2,106 million liters sent.

The price of dairy milk recovered slightly

The price of the milk in dairy (with reliquidations attributable to the month) it recovered slightly in the month of October compared to September, going from 14.13 pesos per liter to 14.49 pesos per liter.

However, measured in dollars, the price of milk in tambo fell from 0.37 dollars in September to 0.37 dollars during the last month, taking an exchange rate of 38.15 pesos and 39.95 pesos, respectively.

On the other hand, the price of kilos of solids with reliquidations it was 190.8 pesos per kilo during October, while in September it had been 183.6 pesos per kilo.

Export forecasts for Uruguay

The demand in the latest projections published at the beginning of this month of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) They estimate a drop in imports of Brazil of whole milk powder, while Algeria is expected to increase demand by 5%, which means good news for the Uruguay.

According to the USDA, Algeria will increase imports of whole milk powder by 5% – about 440 thousand tons – which would remain the same next year. The African country is the second main destination for dairy products Uruguay and one of the largest importers of milk powder in the world.

While, Brazil shows a drop in imports of whole milk powder, being one of the main products exported by the Uruguay to the neighboring country. Meanwhile, according to the report Dairy and Products Annual Elaborated in Brasilia, Brazilian imports will increase from 135,000 to 125,000 tons, while consumption will remain the same as this year.

According to sources consulted by the USDA in Brazil, producers are seeking internal stimuli to beat the current scenario caused by the latest resolutions that focus on the market, to which are added the changes in tariffs. For its part, milk production this year will increase by 4.3%, while next year it is expected to grow by 1.2%.
