President Luis Lacalle Pou led the opening ceremony of the reconditioning of Route 15 in the town of Velázquez.
The government inaugurated road reconditioning works in the department of Rocha for a total investment of 65 million dollars, and the opening ceremony in the town of Velazquez was attended by President Luis Lacalle Pou.
The president was in charge of cutting the ribbon of the protocol ceremony held at the entrance to Velázquez, on Route 15, of which about 60 kilometers of section were renewed. Also present on the day were the Minister of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP), José Luis Falero; he MTOP undersecretary, Juan José Olaizolaand the mayor of the department of Rocha, Alejo Umpiérrez.
The improvements include protection in the asphalt layer, as well as planialtimetric readjustment of the route, with widening, surfacing and stabilization with portland.
The MTOP aims to decentralize Uruguay from “the deep interior”
Falero, assured that the work is part of the process of transforming road infrastructure at the national level, which aims at the decentralization of the country. “Uruguay is complying with those who come further back,” he pointed out in this regard.
In that sense, he recalled the series of works that the Executive power throughout the country in the search for “true decentralization” and explained that the design of the road safety strategy was defined to “save lives.”
Regarding this, he highlighted the fact that from this process, Uruguay will have hierarchy routes, even in the “deep interior”. The head of the MTOP also expressed that in the end the current government, the department of Rocha will have received an investment in public works close to 400 million dollars.
“There was a relevant change to what the route was and what it is today,” he said. Falerowho added that “the quality of this work, for Rocha, is something unusual.”
