On the Danube bank motorway (A22) near Stockerau (Korneuburg district), a broken rim on a truck broke through the windshield of a car on Thursday morning and injured two people. According to the police, the 43-year-old driver from the Hollabrunn district was flown by emergency helicopter to the AUVA trauma center Vienna – Meidling location. The 69-year-old passenger from the Korneuburg district was taken to the Korneuburg State Hospital.
According to the Lower Austria State Police Directorate, the tires on the drive axle on the left rear of the articulated vehicle driven by a 59-year-old from the Melk district had come loose. One wheel rolled on. The rim of the second one broke and part of it was thrown into the oncoming lane and against the car driving towards Hollabrunn.
Five following vehicles – four cars and a truck – collided while taking evasive maneuvers, leaving one on its roof in the ditch, according to police. The driver, a 41-year-old from the Korneuburg district, and a 48-year-old Viennese in another car were transported to the Korneuburg State Hospital with minor injuries.
