Twitter removed nearly 3,500 government propaganda accounts

The vast majority of these publications (2,048) retransmitted the official speech of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) on the treatment of the Uighur people, a Muslim minority of which about a million members are believed to be held in forced labor camps, according to NGOs.

Another 100 accounts were linked to a company close to the government of the Chinese province of Xinjiang (Northwest China), where most of the Uyghurs live.

Likewise, other accounts eliminated promoted the action of the Mexico, Russia, Tanzania, Uganda and Venezuela.

On the other hand, Twitter announced the launch, in early 2022, of a panel on moderation issues for its platform, which will bring together academics, NGO representatives, journalists and members of civil society.

The social network clarified that it will not exercise any control over the research topics or the conclusions of this group of experts.

On Wednesday, the social media giant Facebook reported that it had dismantled an operation orchestrated from China, which used fake accounts to fuel tensions with the United States.
