The liberal conservative Donald Tusk, under whose leadership three pro-European parties won a clear majority, expects that parliament will choose a new prime minister on this day in accordance with the will of the voters. Tusk announced in Warsaw on Friday that the new prime minister would make a government statement on the same or the next day.

Tusk made the comments after a conversation with Parliament Speaker Szymon Holownia. Although the right-wing conservative ruling party PiS was voted out, President Andrzej Duda, who is close to it, commissioned the incumbent Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki to form a government. He immediately received rebuffs from the other parties. It is therefore certain that Morawiecki will lose the vote of confidence at the parliamentary session on December 11th. This would clear the way to form a government on the initiative of Parliament. In a further step, this cabinet must then be sworn in by the president. “Anyone who wants to raise their hand against the verdict of the voters should prepare for political hell,” Tusk warned the president of further delays.
