The almost daily traffic jam problem in the direction of Linz demands a lot of patience from commuters from the Mühlviertel every day. A non-partisan Mühlviertel initiative is now calling on politicians to intensify planning for the regional light rail from Linz via Gallneukirchen to Pregarten. To this end, the online petition “Get the Linz regional light rail line on track NOW” was launched.
Numerous communities in the Mühlviertel are supporting the petition, including the municipality of Pregarten. The increasing traffic numbers are clearly noticeable here too. “The traffic load is already enormous, especially at peak times, and a further increase in private traffic is forecast for the future,” says Mayor Fritz Robeischl (VP).
For this reason, the municipality is actively supporting the online petition, which is about connecting the Mühlkreisbahn to the main train station as line S6 and the future line S7 to the JKU and via Gallneukirchen to Pregarten. “We need efficient public transport in the direction of Linz. We need the regional light rail, especially since there are no signs of expanding the Summerau Railway. By signing the petition, everyone affected has the chance to highlight the importance of this issue,” says Mayor Fritz Robeischl.
In addition to securing financing, the petition also calls for the specific route to be determined in the direction of Pregarten in order to create clarity for the communities affected and all residents. The Upper Austrian state parliament has decided on a preliminary project that is scheduled to start in 2024. The petition can be signed until December 15th at openpetition.de/jetzt.
