When the smell of fresh coffee and warm pastries is in the air, the day starts well. And if you don’t have to lift a finger to enjoy a sumptuous breakfast, then you feel like you’re in the land of milk and honey. With the new breakfast pass (“Breakfast time 2024”), which only OÖN subscribers can buy for 24.90 euros, is particularly affordable in 40 cafés and restaurants in the country. Because with every voucher a second person has breakfast for free. The pass is also suitable as a Christmas present because you don’t have to be an OÖN subscriber to redeem the vouchers.
Here are four suggestions for cafés and restaurants where you can eat well and cheaply with the OÖN breakfast time pass – including excursion tips for afterwards.
- Coffeehouse “Country & Love” in Hellmonsödt (Wasserwald 1a): Manuela Huber and Lisa Sakellaris-Brunner opened their café in May of this year and have been delighting their guests with several tasty breakfast options ever since. “Our Mühlviertler delicacies plate is best received”says Manuela Huber. The ham and salami come from the local butcher shop. Cheese, egg and vegetables are served with it. “You can stretch your feet after breakfast on our planetary path in Hellmonsödt”says Huber. She recommends the Hans Helmon picture book trail to families with small children: “It starts right in front of our coffee house, is 2.5 kilometers long and has lots of puzzles designed especially for children.”

- Wallner café-pastry shop in St. Wolfgang (Markt 29): You can also have an excellent breakfast in Austria’s oldest gingerbread factory. “Our bagels with or without meat are very popular”says senior manager Roland Wallner. Breakfast would also be welcome “Boss’s favorite” ordered, which is served with brown bread, guacamole and, if desired, bacon and a fried egg. When asked for a tip for an excursion, Roland Wallner doesn’t have to think twice: “We are known for our wonderful Christmas market, which is open throughout Advent.”
- Café and pastry shop Weltzer in Eferding (Stadtplatz 25) and Aschach (Kurzwernhartplatz 9): “Our guests love our Italian breakfast with salami and prosciutto”says pastry chef Mario Weltzer. For those who are particularly hungry, he recommends the breakfast platter for two people, which not only comes with a selection of different types of ham and cheese, but also lots of vegetables and eggs. “If you prefer something sweet, you can enjoy fresh croissants with jam or apple strudel”says Weltzer. A breakfast in the Weltzer pastry shop in Eferding can easily be combined with a trip to the Schaunberg castle ruins. “Anyone who stops in Aschach can take a walk along the Danube”recommends the pastry chef.
- Heidi’s Café in Schlierbach (Stiftsstraße 21): “We offer nine breakfast options – from sweet to fishy to vegan”says junior boss Anna Großwein. Among other things, I am happy to order this “Sweet seduction” with waffles, fruit salad, maple syrup and coffee. For sporty guests, Großwein recommends a hike up Schlierbach’s local mountain, the Grillenparz, after breakfast. If you prefer a more leisurely experience, you can take a tour of the show dairy in Schlierbach Abbey on weekdays.
