“May the will for peace overcome hate.” In view of the many wars and crises around the globe, it was a message of peace for the whole world that Linz Diocesan Bishop Manfred Scheuer expressed on Friday in the Christkindl pilgrimage site. He gave the welcoming speech at the opening of the Christkindl Christmas post office and brought with him a message of trust, hope and peace. Scheuer has a special relationship with Steyr: he once worked as a chaplain in the Tabor parish for two years.

The Christkindl post office, where ten “yellow angels” will once again stamp more than 1.5 million Christmas letters and good luck messages with the coveted special stamp, is housed in a wooden hut decorated for Advent in front of the Hotel Christkindlwirt. This year it is opening its doors for the 74th time. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. until December 23rd, and until 5 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. It closes at 12 p.m. on December 24th, after which it has varying opening times until January 6th.

If you want to send your letters via the Christmas post office with the Christkindl stamp, you don’t have to come in person. It is also sufficient to frank the post with the additional stamp “About Postamt Christkindl”, which is available in all post offices.

Speaking of stamps: This year the post office once again issued a Christmas stamp with a face value of 95 cents. The motif “Adoration of the Magi” shows a section of the carved Epiphany shrine in the Oppenberg parish church, which is located at 1008 meters above sea level in the Upper Styrian town of Rottenmann in the Liezen district. You can see Mary with the baby Jesus and King Melchior kneeling in front of her. The special stamp has a circulation of 2.5 million pieces.
