“The number of missions for the fire brigade is decreasing rapidly, now the clearing vehicles are required,” says Johann Treiblmaier, head of operations for the fire brigade in the Braunau district. The roadblocks have been lifted and the traffic routes have been cleared of fallen trees. This means that by late Sunday afternoon there will be free travel everywhere in the district.

  • More on the subject: The situation on the streets is easing – train traffic continues to be disrupted

40 fire brigades in the district were still in action today with around 800 firemen and women: “But the technical operations have been completed so far.” Almost all houses now have electricity again. There were few new problems on Sunday night, so everything could be worked through.

Over 1000 firefighters on duty

On Saturday, the fire departments in the district were even more challenged: fallen trees, broken power lines, carports that collapsed under the weight of snow and numerous accidents in which people were repeatedly injured. 70 fire departments with over 1,000 men were deployed.

  • Review (December 2, 2023): Braunau sinks into the snow

The relief that calm has now returned is correspondingly great. “However, we are anxious about the weather report,” says Treiblmaier. The snow load on the trees is still enormous: “If more snow or rain comes, problems could arise again.”
