Fire departments in continuous operation: “I’ve never experienced that in 30 years”

“A weekend like this with around 1,800 points of damage within 24 hours – I have never experienced anything like this in my 30 years at the State Fire Brigade Command (LFK), not even during the flood in 2002,” said duty officer (OVD) Hannes Niedermayr, taking stock on Sunday afternoon the snow roller that passed over Upper Austria on Saturday.

According to Niedermayr, the situation in the country had already eased significantly on Sunday afternoon. “In Braunau we still have a hotspot with closed streets.” According to the experienced firefighter, the snow load on the trees is still an issue that needs to be monitored in the next few days. Niedermayr advises people to be careful when spending time outdoors. Please avoid closed sections at all costs and, if in doubt, avoid taking a walk in the forest.
