“There are cracks in the glued beams, so we had to completely close the indoor swimming pool, sauna and pool restaurant to our guests on Saturday,” said Losenstein’s mayor Leopold Arthofer on Sunday to the OÖN: “In the coming days, core drilling will provide information about whether the roof structure is at all can still be saved.”

The town in the Enns Valley, which has around 1,600 residents, reported the total closure on the community website at the weekend: “Due to serious defects in the wooden support structure of the roof, the indoor swimming pool must be closed immediately by the building authorities.”

The company that manufactured the wooden support structure in the indoor swimming pool informed the community a little over a week ago that a static assessment was necessary immediately. This was carried out on Thursday by the Krückl-Seidel-Mayr statics office. The report states that “there is therefore a ‘DANGER IMMEDIATE'” in the roof structure above the swimming pool. The area of the swimming pool and restaurant should therefore be closed immediately and renovated.

Due to the announced snowfall, memories of the collapse of the Bad Reichenhall ice skating and swimming pool in January 2006, which had been fatal for 15 people and which had not withstood the pressure of the snow masses, were quickly awakened in Losenstein.

“We cannot yet judge how long the closure will last,” says Arthofer. “If it’s up to us, we’ll reopen as quickly as possible.” However, it can be assumed that there will be a standstill of at least two to three months. The roof has also had serious defects and numerous uncontrolled water ingresses for a long time and urgently needs to be renovated. “We cannot manage this financially from our own resources,” emphasizes Arthofer. He hopes for help from the country.

The indoor swimming pool, which is visited by an average of 35,000 guests per season, was last completely renovated in 1998. A third of the visitors are Losensteiners, the rest come from outside.
