The two of them have a two-thirds majority – at least when it comes to the budget: LH deputy Christine Haberlander and state governor Thomas Stelzer (both VP) are jointly responsible for around 68 percent of the state budget in their departments.
This has to do with the tasks in their departments (Haberlander: Health and Education – Stelzer: Finance and Human Resources). In both areas there are large, fixed blocks of expenditure – such as the severance pay for hospitals (1.2 billion euros), salaries in the state service or for teachers. The salaries for compulsory school teachers alone will amount to around 1.1 billion euros in 2024.

The Social Provincial Council follows in third place Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer (VP) with 995 million euros, in fourth and fifth place, State Transport Council Günther Steinkellner (FP) with 468 million euros and the State Economic Council Markus Achleitner (VP) with 438 million.
The FP boss and LH deputy have roughly the same budget (around 345 million euros). Manfred Haimbuchner (housing, nature conservation, families) and VP regional councilor Michaela Langer-Weninger (Agriculture and communities).
In the lower ranks are the two state councilors who are not part of the black-blue coalition: SP boss Michael Lindner (125 million euros) and Green Party leader Stefan Kaineder (43 million euros). Lindner’s biggest budget chunk is responsibility for the SP-governed communities in the country; for Kaineder it is water management (before environmental protection).
