This Monday, the Ministry of Tourism officially launches the cruise season, with the arrival in Montevideo from the Viking cruise ship.
However, this type of boats began to arrive in Uruguay since the end of October, realizing the potential that this sector of tourist activity has in the country.
For this reason, the government extended the cruise season from three to six months, which will end at the end of April, long after the Tourism Week.
The first week of January, meanwhile, at the height of the summer season in eastern Uruguay, Punta del Este will host another official launch.
The Ministry of Tourism expects that the arrival of ships will increase by 10% and with it the number of visitors, generating a wasteful effect on the local economy.
In the 2022-2023 season Uruguay registered a record, for the last 8 years, with the visit of 187 cruise ships to national ports. In this way, 320,000 visitors arrived at the Uruguaywhich left some $16,300,000 in profits for the country.
The minister reiterated the growth that has been occurring in the number of visitors to the country, at the end of the third quarter the data indicates a total of 2,769,734 tourists, which exceeds the total number of visitors for all of 2022 with more than 300 a thousand people.
