“I’m disappointed at the moment.” Felix Auböck was gnashing his teeth when he emerged from the pool as seventh fastest in the 400 meter freestyle final at the European Short Course Championships in Otopeni (Rou) on Tuesday.
With a time of 3:38.83 minutes, the 26-year-old was just 0.92 seconds short of the podium. It was 3.36 seconds for winner Daniel Wiffen (Irl).
“The others were just faster behind, and in the end I just had no more energy and couldn’t push,” analyzed Auböck, who swam the second fastest lead time in the morning.
“It didn’t really go right in the morning either,” said the native of Lower Austria, who will be tackling the 200 and 800 meter freestyle in the next few days. But he didn’t want to think about that yesterday, so early after the disappointment over the 400 meters – his parade distance.
Edl: “I was very nervous”
Debutant Lukas Edl flew to the European Championships with a completely different starting point and promptly reached the semi-finals in the 100 meter dolphin yesterday. The Welser was not entirely satisfied with the 51.61 seconds he swam there and the final 14th place.
“I was very nervous before the race, I did a lot of things wrong in the run-up and now tried to do everything better with cramps. That was too much at once,” said the 17-year-old, who had to do 50 meters of crawling today continues.
Lena Kreundl already completed this route yesterday. “It was once a good warm-up race,” said the 26-year-old about her 25.01 seconds and 26th place overall. Her focus at the European Championships is on the medleys.
