One of the country’s largest blood donation campaigns is entering its 15th round

“The Innviertel has an absolute role model when it comes to blood donation. We are happy about this situation in this part of the country, but unfortunately this is not an Upper Austria-wide phenomenon,” says Dieter Forsthuber, the director of the Linz Blood Center. It comes as no surprise that what is probably the largest blood donation campaign in the past decade and a half is taking place in Upper Austria in Ried. The joint blood donation campaign by the Red Cross, SV Guntamatic Ried and Oberösterreichische Nachrichten will take place for the 15th time on January 23rd and 24th. Blood can be donated to the Rieder footballers at the Oberbank Business Club on both days from 2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Around 300 blood donations are currently needed every day in Upper Austria. Without the use of voluntary donors, medical care would not be possible as blood still cannot be produced artificially.

“This joint campaign by three strong partners is very important. Above all, this will motivate young people to donate blood,” says Hermann Feichtlbauer, head of the Red Cross local office in Ried. During a visit, SV Ried managing director Rainer Wöllinger was impressed by the work done at the blood center in Linz. “Very committed employees work here who demonstrate enormous precision. It goes without saying that we support this campaign because each of us could be the next person in need of a blood donation,” said Wöllinger.

All healthy people between the ages of 18 and 70 can donate blood every eight weeks. A health questionnaire must be completed before donating blood. The subsequent confidential conversation with a doctor ensures the safety of the blood donor and the blood products. You must bring an official photo ID.

A laboratory result will be sent around eight weeks later. This also makes blood donation a small health check.
