The heavy snowfall last weekend left its mark. A fatal accident occurred during the clean-up work in Gilgenberg (Braunau district) on Tuesday. Shortly before 4 p.m., a 33-year-old forestry worker from Salzburg was hit by a rootstock and fatally injured.

The young man had been working in the forest with a 24-year-old to repair damage caused by the snow. He wanted to clear an uprooted tree that had fallen from a slope onto the municipal road. As he stood next to the tree with the chainsaw to cut the rootstock from the trunk, the rootstock tipped onto the ground and buried the young man under it.

His 24-year-old colleague tried to free him and called the emergency services. The crew of the rescue helicopter and the fire department could no longer do anything for the 33-year-old. He died from his serious injuries at the scene of the accident.
