MOON LAKE. They have been best friends since last summer: Monika Strobl (78) from Mondsee and Daniela Schwamberger (36) from the Caritas mobile nursing service. The qualified health and nursing nurse from Oberwang was called in to care for Strobl because she has special additional training in wound management.
Monika Strobl has congenital lymphedema and needs help changing bandages. In the spring, her illness caused an open wound on her lower leg. “I was in a lot of pain”, she remembers. So she met Daniela Schwamberger. The Caritas employee comes to her assisted living facility in Mondsee several times a week.
“In consultation with the family doctor, I repeatedly adapted the dressing materials to the wound situation”says Schwamberger. “Things got better rapidly from August onwards.” This is not a given. “You can’t predict wound healing, so it would be unprofessional to promise patients that.”
But her work is not just about physical healing. “At the beginning, Ms. Strobl was sometimes desperate”remembers the qualified nurse. “In such situations, it is important to build a good, trusting atmosphere during visits. I always tried to encourage her.”
Today Monika Strobl is happy and grateful. “I did it with my little angel”she says.
By the way, the Caritas mobile care team is still looking for reinforcements. For more information, please call 0676 / 87 76 2550.
