The legislator of the Frente Amplio, Cecilia Cairo, assured that “some 24,000 people who have debts with the public credit bank are contemplated.”
The Housing and Territory Commission of the House of Representatives (Deputies) approved changes in the debtor project in Resettable Units (UR) with the Mortgage Bank of Uruguay (BHU).
The legislator of Broad Front (FA) and president of the commission, Cecilia Cairoassured Subrayado that as of the modifications “some 24,000 people who have debts with the BHU are contemplated.”
The modifications made include proposals from the National Housing Agency (ANV)the BHU itself, and the ministries of Economy and Finance (MEF) and Housing and Territorial Planning (MTOP)which were considered “acceptable” by the legislators of the commission.
After the approval of the changes, the project will now go to the plenary session of the Lower House to be voted on next Tuesday, December 12. The Broad Front pointed out that voting on it before the parliamentary recess is a commitment that had been previously assumed.
What will happen to the debtors?
“The 24,000 debtorsare contemplated, those who have been paying for more than 40 years are contemplated,” said the representative. Those who have owed for more than 40 years will have their debt extinguished, while those who have done so for 30 years will receive bonuses in the interest rates.
The deputy explained that “initially, article 1 stated that she should manage that portfolio Afisa (Investment Fund Administrator Republic)”, but they proposed that it be the ANV, since it has the expertise and can do it quickly, and that the trust be financial and not administrative, given that “there is capital that is going to be recover”.
Regarding innovations, Cairo He stated that “the sale of properties as the owner must be prior to 2009”, since that year they switched to Indexed Units (UI).
