“The biggest enemy of credibility is exaggeration”Ried’s deputy mayor Thomas Dim, parliamentary group leader Christian Bangerl and local councilor Klaus Sattel agree.
Under this motto, the FPÖ Ried trio is submitting a motion at the upcoming local council meeting on Thursday, December 14th “Lifting the climate emergency”which was announced on July 4, 2019.
“We would like to point out that we are already not adhering to the existing emergency regulations when making many decisions. The only things that should be mentioned here are the Christmas lights, the operation of the leisure pool and the ice rink”says Dim, who emphasizes that climate change is by no means denied. However, the climate emergency declared four and a half years ago would require the municipality to examine projects for climate compatibility in all future decisions. To do this, you then have to create the financial and human resources or accommodate them in the city’s budget.
“We have been trying for years in Ried to implement sensible measures for the environment, such as geothermal energy, large PV projects, tree planting or greening the waters”says Bangerl and adds: “The declaration of a climate emergency in the city was actually just lip service and a sham action that did not take existing projects for environmental protection and therefore also for protecting the climate into account.”
The FPÖ agreed in 2019, but in retrospect it was probably a mistake. Why? “Ried has always been climate-conscious, we have done our homework and there is no climate emergency in the city”complement dim and saddle.
“As part of the ‘Agenda 2030’, the municipality of Ried is committed to the goals and content of sustainable development, so maintaining the climate emergency is obsolete”emphasizes the FPÖ Ried trio.
The local council will make the decision on the requested repeal next week.
