After a body was found and a suspect was arrested on Wednesday in the Tyrolean Völs near Innsbruck, an autopsy on Thursday confirmed that the dead man was a 75-year-old who had been missing for a week. According to the police, he died due to “massive violence in the head area” and apparently a week ago. The 51-year-old suspect could not yet be questioned because of his mental state.
Nothing was known about the motive or the exact course of events. As the head of the State Criminal Police Office, Katja Tersch, told the APA, the two men had known each other “for some time” but were not related. The police tracked down the 51-year-old Völser on Wednesday after receiving a tip. The suspect had confided in an acquaintance who contacted the police. She then drove to Völs to his home address.

When he arrived in Völs, the man led investigators to an empty outbuilding on his property after his arrest, explained investigator Philipp Rapold. The body was finally discovered there. However, Tersch did not want to say anything about a possible murder weapon “for reasons of investigation tactics”. Another interview will begin on Thursday afternoon, and a court must decide on detention or placement in a forensic therapeutic center by Friday at the latest.
According to media reports, the 75-year-old is a former, long-standing local politician. It was only on Tuesday that the police put the abductee out for public search at the request of his relatives. It was said that an “accident” was feared.
