The 67-year-old appeared on Sunday between Christmas tree balls, mulled wine stands and carousel games and sang for the astonished audience. Supported by the Rundfunkchor Berlin, Grönemeyer sang his latest production “Kaltes Berlin” at the Lucia Christmas market in the Kulturbrauerei in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district.

The ballad-like song describes a seemingly cold city that also hides hope and empathy. The people at the Christmas market, who were initially taken aback, were so enthusiastic that Grönemeyer and the choir presented the song again.
