On December 8th, they were honored for their achievement by Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Youth State Secretary Claudia Plakolm (both VP) with a special award from the Republic in the Federal Chancellery. Before the ceremony, the young firefighters showed a sample of their skills. The Steyr-Land district was well represented in Vienna: the Mitteregg-Haagen-Sand group won the national championship among girls. Third place in the mixed groups went to the fire department from Waldneukirchen. Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer: “I congratulate the winners on their great successes. It’s nice to see that young people are getting so involved and are making a valuable contribution to our country.” In August, the fastest youth fire brigade groups in Austria were determined from around 600 participants and 57 groups at the 24th Federal Youth Fire Brigade Performance Competition in Lienz in East Tyrol. In total there are more than 33,000 young firefighters in Austria.
