Children and young people are welcome with their parents to the fire brigade experience day on Saturday, December 16th, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the main fire station on Hamerlingstrasse. “We want to make children’s eyes light up again this year and get young people excited about the fire service,” says Wels fire department commander Roland Weber.

Cutting, folding and gluing is on the program in the craft corner. With the help of their parents, the little ones can make their own fire engine and display it in the children’s room at home as a souvenir. Brave kids are invited to explore the winding labyrinth of the respiratory protection training facility wearing a real fire helmet. “Please sit down for a try” is the motto for young and old in the vehicle hall. Fire engines are available there for a great snapshot. Admission is free.

Commander Roland Weber, who was elected this spring as the successor to long-time commander Franz Humer, wants to focus on recruiting new fire department members.

Last year, the fire brigade was called out on an average of six times a day, a total of 2,206 times. 180 people were helped in emergencies, fire operations and accidents. This year, the Wels emergency organization celebrated its 160th anniversary with a ceremony and an open day on October 26th.
