He has been Bishop of Linz since the beginning of 2016, but he spent his first twelve years as bishop in Tyrol: On December 14, 2003, Manfred Scheuer, a native of Upper Austria, was ordained bishop by Alois Kothgasser in Innsbruck Cathedral. On Sunday, December 17th, at 10 a.m., Manfred Scheuer will celebrate a thanksgiving service in Linz’s Mariendom.

By the way, the former celebratory sermon for Scheuer’s episcopal consecration in 2003 was given by the then Bishop of Linz, Maximilian Aichern. “Bishops are servants of joy,” he told Scheuer when he took office. In January 2016, Scheuer took over the office of Linz diocesan bishop from his predecessor Ludwig Schwarz at a celebratory service in Linz’s Mariendom.

The Linz Vicar General Severin Lederhilger, the bishop’s “alter ego” since Scheuer took office in Linz, praises Manfred Scheuer as a “real friend of the people for whom he was given responsibility and took it on in all modesty and assertiveness.”
