Since the timetable change at the beginning of this week, the Kasberg, the Cumberland Wildlife Park Grünau and the Almsee are much easier to reach by public transport. In winter, bus line 534 connects Grünau train station with the Kasbergbahnen valley station and runs on the Almtalbahn. An offer that is particularly attractive for winter sports enthusiasts from the central area.
But there is also a direct bus connection to the ski area from Gmunden via St. Konrad and Scharnstein (bus line 533). Departure from Gmunden (stop at Keramik) is at 8.10 a.m. And finally there is a daily ski bus from Laakirchen via Kirchham and Scharnstein.
The special thing about it: the buses are free for winter sports enthusiasts. This is made possible by the ski area, the Traunsee-Almtal tourism association and the communities along the route contributing to the costs. But it will also be cheaper for families who travel with the ÖBB-Almtalbahn: The OÖ Verkehrsverbund is reducing the price for the OÖ leisure ticket from 24.90 to 19.90 euros from January 1st. The day network ticket is valid for two adults and up to four children throughout Upper Austria (and parts of Salzburg), with the exception of long-distance trains. Climate ticket holders travel for free anyway.
“By expanding regional bus services around the Kasberg, we are helping to ensure the continued existence of a traditional ski area and at the same time getting people excited about public transport in Upper Austria,” says Herbert Kubasta, managing director of the Upper Austrian Transport Association.
State Mobility Councilor Günther Steinkellner (FPÖ) explains: “More and more people are switching to public transport – not only when it comes to traveling to school or work, but also in their free time. This makes it all the more important to continually improve public accessibility to excursion destinations such as Kasberg.”
