The officers were traveling in a civilian car in Leonding shortly before midnight when they noticed two young men following a pedestrian towards the underpass near the Gaumberg tram stop. Because the behavior of the two young people seemed suspicious to them, they started pursuing them. Their intuition was not wrong: a little later, the young men attacked the 52-year-old from Linz. The police immediately jumped out of the car and were able to arrest the 17-year-old Iraqi and the 18-year-old Kosovar on the spot. The background to the attack was initially unknown.
