Homeless murders: 17-year-old suspect in custody

Court spokesman Christoph Zonsics-Kral said the reason for his arrest was the risk of committing a crime.

The decision is legally effective until December 28th. The 17-year-old remains in the youth department of the Josefstadt Prison (JA) for the time being. A child and adolescent psychiatric report will probably clarify whether he is sane and therefore even culpable – from the point of view of his defense attorney Manfred Arbacher-Stöger there are doubts about this. The public prosecutor, who is dealing with a violent attack by the 17-year-old on his own mother, whose ribs he broke in mid-September, had already spoken out in favor of obtaining it on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old did not provide any information about the homicides he was accused of at the detention hearing. He referred to his statements to the police, said court spokesman Zonsics-Kral.

Meanwhile, the “Kronen Zeitung” reported on Thursday about a catering job the 17-year-old had in the Upper Austrian community of Windischgarsten in the fall. According to the report, the Austrian is said to have had plans for another crime during this period. “I was out in Windischgarsten exactly one night to look for a victim. There was a village festival there that night,” the paper cited a passage from an interrogation protocol. “I hadn’t yet decided that I wanted to kill someone, but I had my knife with me and I was walking around there out of boredom,” the boy is said to have explained during the interrogation of the accused after his arrest. The Vienna public prosecutor’s office in the case did not want to comment on this in response to an APA request, citing the ongoing investigation.
