10) Video shows lifeguard kicking young man from ten-meter tower in Steyr
There was great excitement in Steyr when a lifeguard at the city pool kicked a bather from the ten-meter tower into the depths with a massive kick in mid-August. Internal investigations were then initiated, the employee was placed on leave and no longer employed at the outdoor pool.

9) Christian (21) died, 82-year-old driver who was involved in the accident did not have a driver’s license
A traffic accident with a tragic end occurred in September in the Innviertel community of Geretsberg. 21-year-old Christian S. from Helpfau-Uttendorf was riding his motorcycle on the L 504, wanted to turn left and was overlooked by a car driver. Despite resuscitation measures, the young Innviertler died at the scene of the accident. As it later turned out, the 82-year-old driver of the accident did not have a driver’s license.

8) Severe storms called for fire departments: hundreds of operations on Saturday evening
It was the end of the last big heat wave of the summer – and this end was tough. Violent thunderstorms with gusts of up to 125 km/h and heavy rain hit Upper Austria at the end of August. The emergency services had to fight against flooding and storm damage and rescue vehicles. The fire brigades alone had to go out on around 750 missions across the country.

7) 79-year-old asked five hikers for their cell phones to call emergency services in vain
A completely avoidable search for a pensioner from Edt near Lambach caused a stir on the Gosaukamm at the beginning of October. The 79-year-old got lost in the area of the Gablonzerhütte. Because he didn’t have a cell phone with him, he asked a total of five hikers passing by if he could make a call – but none of them complied with his request. The exhausted hiker was finally rescued unharmed by the mountain rescue team.

6) Missing 16-year-old from Mühlviertel found during a search
A large-scale search operation also took place in the Mühlviertel in July, which interested many OÖN readers. A 55-year-old alerted the emergency services on Sunday morning because his 16-year-old son had not returned home from the “Hollerbergfest” in Auberg. In the afternoon, the police helicopter crew finally found the teenager lying in a meadow at the edge of the forest.

5) Three injured after rampage in Linz: 41-year-old caught
At the beginning of the year, a 41-year-old man who is said to have seriously injured his 42-year-old partner was caught in Leonding following an alarm search. Until the dramatic arrest with shots fired, the Iraqi left a trail with several injuries and car accidents from Linz to Leonding. Two young police officers were also seriously injured.

The brutal snow pole murder of 19-year-old student Steffi R. in Bad Leonfelden shocked the whole of Upper Austria in February. Before the cheerful young woman tragically lost her life, she attended the Matura class at the HTL Steyr. Local editor Gerald Winterleitner spoke to classmates of the deceased at school.

3) Ripped from life: “I have to be strong for my children”
For 59 years, the OÖN-Christkindl has been supporting compatriots who have found themselves in need through no fault of their own – and has traditionally aroused great interest among readers with touching stories. The third most clicked article of the year is about Rudi Pumberger from Innviertel, whose wife Helga died of a cerebral hemorrhage in September 2022. 2) Fatal Alpine accident in a hailstorm: “Anna was a hope for the future at the Red Cross”
Sad news reached them Thomasroith Red Cross office in mid-August. The dedicated paramedic Anna M. had a fatal accident while hiking in Salzburg’s Pinzgau – she was surprised by a hailstorm and fell around 200 meters over steep rocky terrain. Her colleagues at the Red Cross had to be looked after by the crisis intervention team.
