The story surrounding the failed referendum on the further construction of the Westring (A26) is once again richer by another chapter. The complaint by Westring opponents against the city of Linz’s no to a referendum was heard today at the Linz State Administrative Court. As reported, the initiation of the referendum failed because the magistrate only recognized 4,872 of the submitted signatures as valid; 6,104 signatures are required.

Missing signatures may not be submitted later
The initiative announced this evening via a press release that, according to the State Administrative Court, it had been granted short-term access to the party and thus access to files. This inspection of the files should take place in December, after which the court will continue the proceedings, it said.
“As the responsible judge expressly emphasized today, the initiation of a referendum is a strong democratic political process, which requires full transparency. “It is therefore necessary that a clean, comprehensible count is carried out,” says Christian Trübenbach, deputy chairman of the newly founded association “Future instead of motorway construction – No to the A26 in Linz!” been refused, and attempts are being made to push through this senseless project using “undemocratic means”.
