This was confirmed by the president of the European Council of the EU, at the summit of leaders of the old continent that is being held in Brussels.
“A sign of hope for its people”. This is what the president of the European Council of the European Union (EU), Charles Michelwhen he confirmed this Thursday that negotiations will be opened to to incorporate to Ukraine already Moldova to the international organization.
“The European Union agreed to start negotiations of accession with Ukraine and Moldova, and grant Georgia the status of an aspiring country,” was what the official said in the early hours of the day.
His statements were said when averaging the first day of a summit of European leaders in Brussels. After the meeting, Michel noted on the social network X (formerly Twitter) that the decision is a “clear sign of hope for its people, and for our continent.

Almost immediately, the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyassured in the same X network that the decision is “a victory for Ukraine” and “a victory for All Europe”. And he added that, in his vision, it is a victory “that motivates, inspires and strengthens”.
The incorporation of Ukraine faced the opposition of Hungaryin a position that threatened with breaking into pieces the unity of the EU in relation to the current conflict in that country.
Arriving this Thursday at the summit of European leaders, the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor OrbánI affirm that “there are no reasons to discuss anything, because the preconditions were not met (…) So we are not in position to start negotiating.”
Michel added on the X network that with Bosnia and Herzegovinathe EU will only begin accession negotiations “once the necessary degree of compliance of the criteria of membership”.
