The DB regrets very much that it is currently not offering customers and travelers “the quality and reliability” that is rightly expected of it, the company announced on Friday. “The rail network is too old, too full and too broken.” That’s why the DB has to set up construction sites at short notice. Travelers should be as well informed as possible and reach their destination reliably. “At the same time, we ask for your understanding if this cannot always be achieved given the large number of construction measures and delays,” said a DB spokeswoman in Munich.
The Austrian Federal Railways subsidiary Go-Ahead had accused DB Netz of being overwhelmed. Construction work is poorly planned, poorly coordinated and announced too late. The passengers are rightly angry. Go-Ahead expects improvement and “a public apology” to passengers and employees.
The youngest German ÖBB subsidiary currently employs around 1,000 people and has an operating company each in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. The deal, which is still subject to antitrust approvals, is expected to close in 2023. The seller is the British Go-Ahead Group. It was agreed not to disclose the purchase price. According to ÖBB, a total of 144 electric multiple units operate regional train services on behalf of the state of Baden-Württemberg and the Bavarian Railway Company.
